ABN Lookup — Privacy Policy

Overview

ABN Lookup is a Chrome extension that queries the Australian Business Register (ABR) to look up Australian Business Numbers (ABNs), Australian Company Numbers (ACNs), and business names. This policy explains exactly what data is accessed, where it goes, and what is stored.

Data we collect

We collect no personal data. The extension does not send any information to the developer or any third-party service operated by the developer.

Data sent to external services

When you perform a search, the following is sent to the ABR web service at abr.business.gov.au:

• The ABN, ACN, or business name you searched for
• Your API authentication GUID (required by the ABR to identify registered API users)

This request is made directly from your browser to the ABR. The ABR's own privacy policy applies to that interaction. No other external service receives any data.

Data stored locally on your device

The extension stores the following in Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local), which never leaves your device:

• Your API GUID — entered by you during setup, used to authenticate ABR requests
• Search history — the last 10 ABNs you looked up, including entity name, ABN, and status. This is displayed in the extension popup and never transmitted anywhere.

Temporary session data (chrome.storage.session) is used to pass a detected ABN from the active Coupa page to the popup. This data is cleared when the browser session ends.

Permissions explained

• storage — to save your GUID and search history locally
• activeTab — to scan the active Coupa page for an ABN so it can be looked up automatically
• scripting — to run a short script on the active tab to detect the ABN on screen
• clipboardWrite — to copy ABN details to your clipboard when you click Copy
• contextMenus — to add a right-click "Look up selected ABN" option

Coupa pages

The extension runs a content script on coupahost.com pages to automatically detect supplier ABNs. It reads ABN values from the page and stores them temporarily in session storage. No page content is transmitted anywhere.

No tracking or analytics

The extension contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.

Data deletion

You can clear your search history at any time using the trash icon in the extension popup. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.

Limited Use disclosure

ABN Lookup's use and transfer of information received from Chrome Web Store APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

• Your API GUID and search terms are used solely to perform the ABN/ACN/business-name lookup you requested, by sending them to the Australian Business Register's official web service — nothing more.
• This data is not transferred to any party other than the Australian Business Register itself, and only as strictly necessary to provide the lookup.
• None of this data is used for advertising, ad targeting, or sold to data brokers or other third parties, in any form.
• No human reads this data, except where you have given affirmative consent for a specific case, where it is necessary for security purposes (e.g. investigating abuse), or where required to comply with applicable law.
